Nintendo has announced that it will be bringing back one of its most beloved titles The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening to the Nintendo Switch later this year. Links Awakening was first released in 1993 for the original Game Boy and was the first Zelda game to be released on a handheld, and is the fourth title in the franchise. It was later updated for the Game Boy Color in 1998.
Links Awakening is one of the few Legend of Zelda games set outside the land of Hyrule, and has ties to the Mario universe, thanks to the inclusion of enemies such as Chain Chomp and Goombas.
The re-release for the Switch is more than just a Virtual Console-style release, it’s a complete 3D “reimagining” of the classic Zelda title. The remale will use new 3D models and employ a stylish, toy-like aethestic look, but will still retain the top-down – occasionally side-scrolling – view of the original Game Boy version.
Nintendo hasn’t given us a proper release date yet, but expect to see it sometime this year. Stay tuned for more information!
