The Playstation Classic – Should You Get One?

When Sony first announced it was going to release a miniature version of its PlayStation 1 this December, I was extremely hyped for it, and even had one pre-ordered on Amazon. However, once Sony announced the full games line-up coming to the PlayStation Classic – I was left feeling rather disappointed.

Instead of including the games which made the PlayStation 1 so special, Sony decided to opt for a much weaker line-up. I’m glad that they’ve at least bothered to include some decent games such as Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, Mr Driller, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Rayman, Resident Evil, Syphon Filler and Twisted Metal.

Personally, I think Sony should of bumped up the games list to at least 30 games, and included popular titles such as Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2, Crash Bandicoot 3, Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo 2, Gran Turismo 3, Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider 2, Tomb Raider 3, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, Spyro, Spyro 2, Spyro 3, Silent Hill etc.

There are also many more great games that Sony could of chosen to include, but now I feel this is a missed opportunity for them, and also a big let down for nostalgic gamers (like me) who was hoping for more out of this console.

Final Verdict

I’d recommend saving your money, and not buying the PlayStation Classic on December 3rd – there just isn’t enough good titles to justify buying one of these! Yes the Hardware does look nice, and Sony has done a great job of that, but without a good games line-up, this thing is doomed!

There are plenty of PlayStation 1 emulators out there, which you can play some of your favourite games on, or alternatively you can buy a PlayStation 1 on eBay for next to nothing these days and use that instead!
